Mike Sweeney reinstated from disabled list 08/31/2007 6:18 PM ETMLB.com
KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Royals have returned first baseman/designated hitter Mike Sweeney from his rehab assignment with Omaha (AAA) and reinstated him from the 60-day disabled list prior to tonight's second game in Minnesota. To make room for Sweeney on the active roster, the Royals optioned right-handed pitcher Kyle Davies to Wichita (AA). The Royals also transferred right-handed pitcher John Thomson from the 15-day to the 60-day D.L. Sweeney has been on the disabled list since June 19 with right knee inflammation and later, right knee surgery, missing 62 games. He is hitting .245 (50-for-204) with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 57 games for the Royals. Mike played six games in a rehab assignment with Omaha, hitting .190 (4-for-21) with one RBI and one run scored. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
