KANSAS CITY -- Kansas City Royals outfielder Mark Teahen will host the "Mark Teahen...Challenge Your Fashion" fundraiser on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kan. Proceeds from the event benefit the YMCA of Greater Kansas City Challenger Division Baseball Program.

Teahen, who serves as the Challenger spokesman, will be joined by teammates Billy Butler, David DeJesus, Joey Gathright, Esteban German, Alex Gordon, Zack Greinke, Mark Grudzielanek, Luke Hudson, Gil Meche, Tony Pena, Jr., and Ryan Shealy. Along with mingling with guests, the players will be modeling fashions from Halls. Guests will enjoy cocktails, dinner and a fashion show along with silent and live auctions featuring one-of-a-kind sports experiences and memorabilia.

The Challenger Division of Little League Baseball was created in 1989 to remove the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field. To help young athletes, the Challenger Division features a "buddy" system and pairs each player with an able-bodied peer. In October 2006, Teahen and the Royals helped to break ground for the Challenger Sports Complex, a custom-designed field using a synthetic turf that accommodates wheelchairs and other assistive devices. The vision of a Challenger Division baseball field in Kansas City came through a joint effort of Royals Charities, students from William Jewell College's Pryor Leadership Studies Program and the YMCA of Greater Kansas City.
