Royals and Fox Sports Kansas City announce high definition schedule

KANSAS CITY, MO (March 18, 2009) - Kansas City Royals fans with High Definition television service will again be able to experience the latest cutting edge technology when viewing Royals games in 2009. The Royals and Fox Sports Kansas City will televise 99 Royals games in High Definition this season.

Fox Sports Kansas City will produce more than 70 percent of its 140 regular-season telecasts in HD. The network televised 88 HD games in 2008, which was the first year of HD telecasts for Royals baseball.

The HD schedule starts Opening Day, Monday, April 6, when the Royals visit the Chicago White Sox. Fox Sports Kansas City will also produce an HD telecast for the Home Opener against the New York Yankees on Friday, April 10. The entire home-opening series against the Yankees and 72 of 73 home telecasts from newly-renovated Kauffman Stadium will be produced in HD.

HD programming will begin 30 minutes before game time to include Fox Sports Kansas City's pregame and postgame show, Royals Live, which will be produced in HD on HD game nights.

Viewers should contact their cable or satellite provider or visit to find out if Fox Sports Kansas City HD telecasts are available in their area.

The Royals and Fox Sports Kansas City are entering the second season of a long-term agreement that makes Fox Sports Kansas City the exclusive television home of Kansas City Royals baseball. Fox Sports Kansas City will televise 140 regular season games and two spring training contests in 2009, plus the Royals Live pregame and postgame shows. Its live game coverage will begin tonight - Wednesday, March 18 at 8 p.m. CT - with the Royals spring training game against the Seattle Mariners. Fox Sports Kansas City will also televise the Royals spring exhibition against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, March 20 at 8 p.m.
