Royals return for six-game homestand

KANSAS CITY, MO (August 3, 2009) - The Kansas City Royals open their August home schedule tomorrow with visits from the Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics. Please note that for the remainder of the season, all Kauffman Stadium gates will open 1 1/2 hours prior to the game for Sunday-Thursday games and 2 hours prior on Fridays and Saturdays. DRI DUCK Fountain Seats will go on sale when the gates open.

Tuesday, August 4 - Seattle Mariners vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

Events:

  • Royals FUNdamentals Youth Clinic: The Royals invite fans ages 6-12 to Kauffman Stadium for an instructional baseball clinic. Taking place prior to a Royals home game, each 40-minute clinic is led by former players and held on the John Deere Little K in the Outfield Experience. Royals FUNdamentals Youth Clinic packages are available for $40 and include a Field Plaza game ticket (regularly $26) for that night's game, certificate of completion autographed by Royals alumni instructors and an opportunity to purchase additional Field Plaza tickets for $10 each.   • Guillen's Gamers (August 4-9): For 68 home games this season, outfielder Jose Guillen will host children in the "Guillen's Gamers" section, giving them the opportunity to experience the thrill of Major League Baseball.

Wednesday, August 5 - Seattle Mariners vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

Promotions:

  • Buck Night presented by Independence Honda: Hot dogs, small Pepsis, peanuts and Royals Gameday Magazines are just $1 each, all night long!
  • '80s Retro Night: The Royals salute the '80s with $10 Lower Level seats. A pregame party in the Outfield Experience will feature The Zeroes, an '80s cover band, as well as a costume contest and games. Wear your fanny pack to the park for a special ticketing offer. Please note: The $3 "GA" tickets for '80s Retro Night have sold out.
  • Ink College Night Happy Hour: Come out to "The K" for Ink College Night! On Wednesday, the Royals offer $7 Outfield Box or Field Plaza tickets for high school and college students with a valid ID shown at the Box Office. Food and beverage specials are available at Outfield Experience concession areas.

Events:

  • Dream Factory: Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wish of a Dream Factory child. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV 10 p.m. newscast.
  • John Buck's BUCKAROOS: John Buck hosts children from State of Missouri Children's Division in the "BUCKAROOS" section. The children will receive complimentary tickets, food coupons, and special "BUCKAROOS" T-shirts. Buck will also have a meet and greet with the kids prior to the game.

Thursday, August 6 - Seattle Mariners vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

Promotions:

  • Hostess "Steeerike It Rich" Million Dollar Event: Prior to the game, Jeff Faust from Noblesville, Ind., winner of the Hostess Cupcakes national promotion, will try to win a million dollars by throwing three consecutive strikes through a target on the Kauffman Stadium field. Jeff was randomly chosen after entering the Hostess "Streerike It Rich Sweepstakes" on a cupcake box earlier this summer.

  • Royals Back to School Drive (August 6-7): Royals Wives and volunteers host the fifth annual Back to School Drive to benefit Primitivo Garcia Elementary School. Royals pitcher Gil Meche and his wife Stacy have been named co-chairs of this year's drive. Royals Wives will collect school supplies behind section 232 on the Plaza Concourse level of Kauffman Stadium from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on August 6 and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on August 7. Additional drop-off sites for the two-day drive will be outside Gates B and D of Kauffman Stadium.
  • Special Olympics Clinic: Royals players and coaches host a clinic at Kauffman Stadium from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for athletes from Special Olympics Kansas City Metro, Special Olympics Kansas and the Down Syndrome Guild.

Friday, August 7 - Oakland Athletics vs. Kansas City Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Hy-Vee/Pepsi Fireworks Friday: Fans get treated to a fireworks spectacular courtesy of Hy-Vee and Pepsi following the Royals contest with the Oakland Athletics.

  • Diamond of Dreams Check Presentation - Operation Breakthrough: Royals Charities will present a check for $150,000 to locally-based Operation Breakthrough during the Royals pre-game ceremony. On July 23, Royals Charities hosted Diamond of Dreams: Taking the Field for Operation Breakthrough.

Saturday, August 8 - Oakland Athletics vs. Kansas City Royals, 6:10 p.m.

Promotions:

  • Frank White Hall of Fame Figurine (photo attached in e-mail): The first 20,000 fans will receive replica figurine of Frank White's retired number statue.

Events:

  • Salute to Uniformed Heroes Weekend: Saturday's events will honor military members, with a special FOX Sports Kansas City simulcast to Afghanistan where members of the Missouri National Guard are deployed. Military equipment from Fort Riley will be on display prior to the game in Lot A. Presented by Farmers Insurance.
  • Baseball Night in Kansas City: 610 Saturday: Celebrate 40 years of Royals baseball with special activities in the Outfield Experience! This 610 Saturday pre-game party includes a remote from KCSP, live music, activities for fans of all ages and food and drink specials.
  • Hit It A Ton Presentation and Tailgate: Royals Mike Aviles, Willie Bloomquist and Billy Butler will visit supporters of the Bishop Sullivan Center's "Hit It A Ton" promotion during a private event in Lot N of Kauffman Stadium at approximately 4:45 p.m. During pregame ceremonies, the Royals Wives will present the Bishop Sullivan Center with a check from the proceeds of the Royals Wives Food Drive held in May.
  • AT&T Youth Baseball Clinic: The Royals lend their expertise at a free instructional baseball clinic from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. on the John Deere Little K for pre-selected guests of AT&T. Instructors for the clinic include Royals Hall of Famer Willie Wilson and former Royals Brian McRae, Rod Myers and Greg Pryor.

Sunday, August 9 - Oakland Athletics vs. Kansas City Royals, 1:10 p.m.

Promotions:

  • Back to School Chest Protector Backpack (photo attached in e-mail): First 10,000 fans, 14 and under.
  • Sprint Fun Run: Fans of all ages can head to the field following the Royals series finale with the Oakland Athletics to run the bases in the Sprint Fun Run.
