03/13/2011 1:50 PM ET

The Kansas City Royals have announced today that the club has claimed left-handed pitcher Robert Fish on Outright Waivers from the New York Yankees. To make room for Fish on the 40-man roster, the Royals placed right-handed pitcher Henry Barrera on the 60-day Disabled List with a right elbow sprain.

Fish, 23, was a Rule 5 Draft selection by the New York Yankees from the Los Angeles Angels organization on December 9, 2010. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound lefty has allowed five runs on six hits in 4.2 innings for the Yankees this spring, walking three and striking out three. Fish, the Angels' sixth-round pick in the 2006 Draft, is 20-20 with a 5.05 ERA in 126 career minor league appearances, including 58 starts. In 365.2 innings, he has struck out 371 batters. Last season, the San Bernardino (Calif.) native was 5-5 with a 6.79 ERA in 49 relief outings, striking out 73 in 58.1 innings combined for Rancho Cucamonga (High A) and Arkansas (AA).
