The third All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Run presented by Nike was held on Sunday, July 8 in downtown Kansas City and raised a record total of more than $200,000 for Stand Up to Cancer, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Participants ran and walked on an All-Star themed course, featuring appearances by MLB legends, mascots and celebrity guests. Hall of Famer George Brett served as the Official Race Starter. Other celebrity participants included former Royals Mike Sweeney, Jeff Montgomery, Willie Aikens and John Wathan, as well as American Idol winner and Blue Spring, Mo., native David Cook, and Alison Sweeney, host of The Biggest Loser.
All event-related net proceeds will be donated equally to the three charities supporting cancer research and education. Previous MLB All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Runs have been held in St. Louis (2009) and Anaheim (2010).
