The Royals Caravan, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors, launches the baseball season, as current and former players, mascot Sluggerrr, and front office staff visit communities throughout the Midwest. Each winter, the Caravan visits schools, military members, and shopping centers outside of Kansas City.

Friday, April 4 - Greater Kansas City Day

On the day of the home opener, the Royals team up with more than 1,500 volunteers to sell a special Royals edition of the Kansas City Star throughout the city. Proceeds from the sales help send kids to Rotary Youth Camp and other deserving children's charities.

Tuesday, April 15 - Jackie Robinson Day

The Royals and the rest of Major League Baseball celebrate Jackie Robinson Day with a special pre-game ceremony. In addition, all teams will honor his memory by wearing #42 jerseys.

Saturday, April 19 - UMPS CARE

The Royals partner with Major League Baseball umpires to offer memorable baseball experiences for children awaiting adoption and at-risk youth in mentoring programs. The children receive a VIP experience including complimentary tickets, a baseball goody bag, and the unique opportunity to step on to the field for a souvenir baseball and photo.

Monday, April 28 - Billy Butler at Bishop Sullivan Center Kickoff

Royals designated hitter Billy Butler is challenging local young ballplayers to donate food or money for the Bishop Sullivan Center throughout the month of May as part of the Hit-It-A-Ton Youth League Challenge. To kick off the initiative, Butler will join several youth baseball players to sack groceries and later serve a meal to hundreds of people at St. James Place. This is the seventh year Butler and his wife Katie are helping Bishop Sullivan Center feed hungry people through the Hit-It-A-Ton campaign. So far his program has raised more than 1,600 tons of food. Thursday, May 1 - 20/20 Scholarship Announcement

The five winners of the 2014 MLB Royals All-Star Scholars program will be announced during the 20/20 Leadership's Shining Star Awards, taking place at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. The five $10,000 scholarships are distributed to students from the 20/20 Leadership program, which services students from moderate- to low-income families to educate and develop personal and leadership skills. The scholarships were created from proceeds from the 2012 All-Star Game in Kansas City and benefit students who plan to attend any college/university in Missouri or Kansas.

Royals pitcher James Shields and KCP&L host foster children and their families to that evening's game. Each child will receive complimentary tickets, a "Big Game James" t-shirt and a free meal courtesy of ARAMARK and Papa John's Pizza. Fans are invited to visit the Nuts and Bolts located at College and Antioch (11200 Antioch in Overland Park, Kan.) to meet Royals head groundskeeper Trevor Vance from 11 a.m. to noon. Vance, who is in his 30th year with the club and 20th as Senior Director-Groundskeeping and Landscaping, oversees the supervision and overall operation of the natural grass field at Kauffman Stadium and will give out tips on how to hit a home run with your lawn!

In partnership with Variety Children's Charity of Greater Kansas City and the Cal Ripken, Sr., Foundation, the Royals and Royals Charities will dedicate two adaptive baseball fields - one at McCoy Park in Independence, Mo., and the other for the Miracle League of Olathe (Kan.) at Olathe Northwest High School Athletic Complex - for children with disabilities. The projects were made possible with funds from the 2012 MLB Gatorade All-Star Workout Day held during All-Star Week.

Royals Charities hosts Diamond of Dreams, its largest fundraiser of the year, on the field at Kauffman Stadium. Proceeds from the event benefit The University of Kansas Hospital's Neonatal Home. Saturday, September 6 - T.A.K.E. Defense Class

Royals Charities is once again teaming with The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation to host a T.A.K.E. Defense self-defense class on the field at Kauffman Stadium. The class is free of charge and open to females ages 12 and older. Participants must pre-register and those under the age of 18 will also need a signature from a parent or guardian to participate.

Wednesday, September 17 - Roberto Clemente Day

In honor of Hall of Fame legend Roberto Clemente - who died on New Year's Eve 1972 during a humanitarian mission to assist earthquake victims in Nicaragua - Major League Baseball and all 30 Clubs annually commemorate Roberto Clemente Day. This initiative pays tribute to Clemente's lasting legacy and recognizes players who best represent the game of baseball through sportsmanship, community involvement and positive contributions, both on and off the field. Local club nominees for the Roberto Clemente Award are recognized in pre-game ceremonies.

Friday, September 19 - Big Game James Club

Royals pitcher James Shields and KCP&L host foster children and their families to that evening's game. Each child will receive complimentary tickets, a "Big Game James" t-shirt and a free meal courtesy of ARAMARK and Papa John's Pizza. In addition, the children will participate in a meet and greet with Shields prior to the game!

Fans also have an opportunity to bid on one of the spots and secure their place on the field. Proceeds benefit Royals Charities and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.

Saturday, September 27 - Meet Groundkeeper Trevor Vance at Nuts and Bolts

Royals head groundskeeper Trevor Vance will meet Royals fans at one of the local Nuts and Bolts locations. Vance, who is in his 30th year with the club and 20th as Senior Director-Groundskeeping and Landscaping, oversees the supervision and overall operation of the natural grass field at Kauffman Stadium and will give out tips on how to hit a home run with your lawn! Time and location details will be announced shortly.

Tuesday, November 25 – Thanksgiving at Guadalupe Centers, Inc.

Royals associates help bring holiday cheer to guests of the Guadalupe Centers, Inc. by serving a Thanksgiving feast. Guadalupe Centers, Inc. began in 1919 and is the longest continually-operating organization serving Latinos in the United States. It strives to improve the quality of life for individuals in the Latino communities of the Kansas City area by providing educational programs, facilitating access to health and social services, promoting and providing Latino cultural enrichment events, and sponsoring social activities.

Wednesday, December 10 – Royals Charities Kids Holiday Party

During the sixth annual party, Royals Charities will host underserved children from area organizations to participate in holiday-themed activities such as decorating cooking and making ornaments. In addition, each child will receive a gift from Santa Claus and Sluggerrr Claus purchased by Royals associates and leave with a stocking full of goodies. The gift may be the only present that the children receive during the holiday season.

Friday, December 12 – Johnson County Christmas Bureau Holiday Shop

Sluggerrr and Royals associates will distribute food, winter clothing and holiday gifts at the Johnson County Christmas Bureau Holiday Shop. The Johnson County Christmas Bureau is a volunteer, non-profit organization and United Way agency created in 1960 that provides necessary assistance to low-income families of Johnson County, Kansas.
