In 2008, Billy Butler and his wife Katie established the Hit-It-A-Ton hunger relief effort to support the Bishop Sullivan Center, the largest single site provider of emergency assistance in the Kansas City area.
The Hit-It-A-Ton campaign enlists fans and local businesses to match Billy's donation for every home run ($250 - the cost of a ton of food) and double ($125 - the cost of a half of a ton of food) he hits.
In addition, throughout the years, the Butlers have helped with a number of other special events to benefit the center.
Fans who match the Butler's home run and doubles donations have the opportunity to earn an autographed item as well as attend special events including "Breakfast with Billy" and a Royals game in August.
In an effort to get children involved with feeding the hungry, young fans can enroll in the Doubles Club for Kids. Members receive a Doubles Club T-shirt and two tickets to the "Breakfast with Billy" event on Saturday, August 9.
For more information about either of the above programs, visit bishopsullivan.org or call 816-231-0984. The Bishop Sullivan Center is located at 6435 Truman Road, Kansas City, MO 64126.
On Saturday, August 9, Billy and some of his teammates join Hit-It-A-Ton donors at this fun event featuring a breakfast catered by Chris Cakes and games for all ages. The event is limited to 325 people.
Enlisting the support of their teammates and their wives, the Butlers lead the charge for the Royals Wives Food Drive. Prior to a game, fans are encouraged to donate canned food and cash donations to support hunger relief efforts.
