Matching Grant Information

Program Objective: Royals Charities will provide financial support to help improve baseball and/or softball facilities throughout the Midwest region. Royals Charities will match grants up to $5,000 to help small non-profit organizations and local government units that operate baseball and/or softball programs.

Matching Grant/Size Purpose: Matching grants of up to $5,000 are available for major renovations of baseball and/or softball fields used primarily for youth. Major renovations will include the upgrading of essential baseball field components including new sod, the infield, fencing and dugouts. Non-essential items such as lights, bleachers/grandstands, restrooms and scoreboards and routine maintenance of the facility will not qualify.

Eligibility: The program is open to any independent Midwest, 501 C-3 not for profit organizations or local government units that operate a youth baseball and/or softball program in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma or Arkansas. Such organizations that have secured funds not exceeding $5,000 may apply for a matching funds grant.

Application Process/Schedule: Qualifying organizations must complete an application and submit application and required documents to the Royals Charities Board of Directors. Applications will be accepted and reviewed throughout the year. Grant approval will be determined by the Board of Directors. Applications for consideration must be received at least four weeks prior to the scheduled board meetings. Board meetings will be held during the months of March and August. Applications must be mailed through the United States Post Office. Faxed applications will not be accepted.

Grant Payments: Matching grant payments will be made in two installments. The first payment at the time of the grant commencement and the second payment at the project completion.

Applicants should complete renovation projects within one year of the grant award date.

Additional Requirements: Grant recipients will prominently display provided signage recognizing program supporters and seek local media coverage for Grant Dedication Ceremony.

Royals Charities Agrees to: Recognize the organization and matching grant donor in the Royals Gameday Magazine during the Royals baseball season. A member of the Royals Charities Board of Directors and a representative of the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club (current/former player or staff member) will be present for the dedication ceremonies whenever possible.
