Comments from past T.A.K.E. Defense Participants

"As a parent of two girls, one off to college next year, The Ali Kemp program has given me a greater sense of responsibility to the other young girls in my community by encouraging them to also attend an upcoming class."

"I wanted to thank everyone that helped with the self defense program Saturday at the Royals. I am the mother of three young girls, and we all attended with my mother. The four of us had such a great time and learned so much. Often these type of messages are better emphasized by someone other than your mom and the message was loud and clear to my girls, and to mom and I! Thank you all so much."

"Saturday at the "K" exceeded my expectations. I have attended self defense classes in the past but none like the one you all did. I came with my girlfriend and we learned so much in just 2 hours. I have made changes already at my home and will spend the time this week to think about what other changes I can make to be more safe. I will be telling everyone to attend one of these classes, keep up the great work!"

"I wanted to express my sincere appreciation to the Ali Kemp Foundation and to the KC Royals organization for the excellent program that myself and my daughter attended on Saturday...This was tailor made for us and I could not have asked for a better opportunity for us to experience this important training."

The Kansas City Royals, 98-1 KUDL and The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation's T.A.K.E. Defense welcomed more than 1,400 females to Kauffman Stadium this season for two self-defense classes on the field at Kauffman Stadium.

The first class was held Saturday, May 9, while the second class was held Saturday, Sept. 19 and had nearly 1,000 participants, ranking as the largest T.A.K.E. Defense self-defense class in the history of the program!

The next class date is:

  • 2010 Season - specific dates to be announced

The T.A.K.E. Defense program represents a living legacy in honor of Ali Kemp, a 19-year-old Leawood, KS resident who was murdered while working as a lifeguard at a neighborhood pool in Johnson County. The goal of the program is to raise awareness and to give women ages 12 and older the self-protection skills they need to avoid becoming the victims of violent crime. Our oldest participant has been 86 years old! Participants will learn basic self-defense techniques, which could save their lives.

In 2008, the Royals hosted their first two T.A.K.E. Defense classes, welcoming more than 700 females to "The K!"
