This Day in Baseball History
February 25, 1972 > The St. Louis Cardinals trade Steve Carlton to the Philadelphia Phillies for Rick Wise. The trade will prove to be one of the best in the history of the Philadelphia franchise; not only will Carlton win 27 games in 1972, he'll go on to capture four Cy Young Awards during his 14 1/2 seasons in a Phillies uniform. For his part, Wise will win 16 games in each of the next two years, although the Cardinals will trade him just days after the end of the 1973 season.
