Davies poised to mess with Texas
Kansas City (51-65) at Texas (51-66), 7:35 p.m. CT
The Rangers came to Kansas City late last month and caught three straight losses and were outscored, 22-6. In fact, going back to last season, the Royals have won six of the last seven games against the Rangers.
That's a trend that new Royals pitcher Kyle Davies would like to continue along with the success that he found in his last start.
Davies pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings in a 1-0 victory over the Twins during a stifling afternoon when the heat index hit 98 in KC.
Now all he has to do is avoid the one-good, one-bad, one-good, one-bad routine he seemed to have in his starts with the Braves. This time he goes for the two-good.
For a while, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington was not too friendly to the Royals after it opened in 1994. However, in the past four years, they've been 8-7 in Texas.
KC: RHP Kyle Davies (5-8, 5.64)
Davies' second start for the Royals went much better than his first. He reeled off 6 2/3 shutout innings against the Twins, giving up just three hits, in a 1-0 victory. In his KC debut, he lasted just three innings against the Yankees and gave up five runs. Against the Twins, Davies walked just two -- the first and last batters he faced. In one stretch, he retired 14 consecutive batters. TEX: RHP Kevin Millwood (7-9, 5.90)
Millwood allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits over six innings in his last start against Oakland. He had six strikeouts with four walks in a no-decision game. Millwood gave up six runs on nine hits and left after 2 2/3 innings in his last start against the Royals on July 28. Lifetime against Kansas City, he is 3-3 with a 4.46 ERA. Players to watch:
Against Millwood, David DeJesus and Emil Brown are each hitting .400 (6-for-15). Brown has a home run, a triple and a double plus two walks and two RBIs. DeJesus has four doubles against Millwood and also has two walks and two RBIs. Tickets
