KANSAS CITY -- Rain caused the postponement of the Royals' game against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.

The game was rescheduled as a doubleheader starting at 5:10 p.m. CT on Thursday at Kauffman Stadium.

The pitching matchups were held over for the first game, with the Royals' Brett Tomko matched against the Indians' Fausto Carmona. In the second game, it'll be the Royals' Brian Bannister and the Indians' Cliff Lee.

This was the first rainout for both clubs this season.

Fans holding tickets for Wednesday night's game can exchange their tickets for the doubleheader or any other Royals regular-season game.

The game was called off shortly before 9 p.m. CT, nearly two hours after the scheduled starting time, after steady rains did not abate.

This was the 71st rainout in the 36-year history of Kauffman Stadium. This was the first since April 29, 2006, against the Oakland A's.
