ARLINGTON -- Left-hander John Bale is making progress, but there's no certainty when he might return to pitching.
Royals manager Trey Hillman watched Bale throw before Tuesday night's game against the Rangers, and reported he was doing well as he recovers from left shoulder fatigue. Bale is eligible to come off the disabled list on Thursday.
"I don't know if we'll be in the time frame of the next couple days or not, but at least he's on the right track to come back," Hillman said.
Right-hander Luke Hochevar took Bale's place in the rotation and looked strong in a victory over Toronto on Saturday night.
Would Bale return as a starting pitcher?
"I didn't even project that until we see when he's ready to come back, and then we'll make that determination," Hillman said.
