SURPRISE, Ariz. -- First baseman Billy Butler's bruised left hand will keep him from playing until the Royals' B-game on Friday morning against the Texas Rangers.

"His hand's coming along good. He didn't have any trouble yesterday with his big glove," manager Trey Hillman said on Tuesday. "He's going to go through all the defensive work but because of where he holds the bat -- he kind of puts the knob down by the hamate bone -- it's still tender and still got some swelling."

Butler was hit by a pitch in Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. X-rays were negative.
