Duffy adds Futures Game to resume

Carolina All-Star lefty to represent Royals on U.S. team

06/25/09 1:00 PM ET

Danny Duffy, a promising left-handed starter, will be the Royals' representative in the XM All-Star Futures Game on July 12 in St. Louis.

Duffy, 20, will be on the U.S. roster in the annual game against the World team.

Pitching this season for Class A Wilmington, Duffy has a 6-2 record and a 2.85 ERA in 13 starts. He was one of the Blue Rocks' players in the California-Carolina League All-Star Game on Tuesday night and pitched one scoreless inning.

A low ERA is nothing new for Duffy, a product of Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo High. After being selected in the third round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, he had a 1.45 ERA and a 2-3 record in 11 games for the Surprise Royals in the Arizona Rookie League.

Last year, he moved up to Class A Burlington and posted a 2.20 ERA along with an 8-4 record in 17 starts. In his last 11 starts, Duffy was 6-1 with an 0.99 ERA, helping the Bees win the Midwest League title.

The 11th annual XM All-Star Futures Game, pitting the best Minor League prospects from the United States against the best from the rest of the World, will be held at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on All-Star Sunday, July 12, at 1 p.m. CT. MLB.com will provide complete coverage before, during and after the game, which can be seen live on ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on Gameday.
