KANSAS CITY -- Persistent rain caused Monday night's game between the Royals and the Angels to be postponed.

It will be made up as part of a doubleheader starting at 4:10 p.m. CT on Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals will start Sidney Ponson, who was scheduled to start on Monday night, in the first game. Bruce Chen, originally booked for Tuesday night, will go in the second game.

However, the Angels switched their two starters. They'll go with Ervin Santana in the opener and Sean O'Sullivan in the nightcap.

The second game will start 30 minutes after the first game is concluded, but in case of a quick opener, it would not begin before the regularly-scheduled 7:10 p.m. CT start.

This is the second postponement this season but the first doubleheader for the Royals. They were rained and snowed out on Opening Day, April 6, at Chicago, but the game was played the next day which was scheduled as an open date.

Scheduled to begin at 7:10 p.m. CT, the Royals waited almost 1 1/2 hours before declaring the rainout at 8:38 p.m. It was the 73rd rainout in 37 years at Kauffman Stadium.

Tickets for the game can be redeemed for any future Royals games, including the doubleheader. Monday night's tickets must be exchanged for tickets to another 2009 regular-season game.

Fans with ticket questions can contact the Royals' ticket office at 1-800-6-ROYALS or 816-504-4040.

Both games will be televised by Fox Sports Kansas City.
