ST. PETERSBURG -- Royals manager Trey Hillman left for his home in Texas immediately after Sunday's game to deal with a personal matter.

"An emergency back home," he said after hurriedly discussing the 4-1 victory over the Rays with reporters.

The Royals said that bench coach John Gibbons will direct the club in Monday's series finale.
