SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A.J. Pollock opened the game with a home run for Arizona, and a D-backs split squad kept rolling in a 10-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday at Surprise Stadium.Left-hander Danny Duffy, the Royals' No. 5 starter, gave up two homers to the D-backs. Pollock took Duffy's fourth pitch of the game over the left-field wall for his third home run of the spring. Geoff Blum hit a two-run blast to left in the fifth after Pollock singled. It was Blum's first. "I left a ball up 2-1 and he got it. What else can I say?" Duffy said of Pollock's homer. "The other one was on a curveball. I didn't think he got all of that, but any ball that goes out of the park obviously is hit pretty well." Blum, who'll open the season as a utility player for the D-backs, is hitting .297. "I feel pretty good," Blum said. "I've gotten a lump sum of at-bats toward the end of spring, which is nice to get a little consistency and get the timing down. I'm looking forward to starting the season already."
Duffy was pulled after 4 2/3 innings when he hit a batter with his 88th pitch. Reliever Brandon Sisk gave up a two-run triple to Henry Blanco. That meant Duffy was charged with six runs, one unearned, on seven hits. The D-backs jumped on reliever Jonathan Broxton for four runs in the seventh inning. John McDonald drilled a two-run single, and Adam Eaton powered an RBI triple, but there were also two errors, so all four runs were unearned. Minor Leaguer Jamie Romak homered to center field to open the Royals' eighth against right-hander Bo Schultz to round out the scoring.
