KANSAS CITY -- The Royals Sports Television Network announced today its 116-game television schedule for the 2005 season. The schedule will provide fans with a comprehensive television package that includes games on several cable and satellite systems, as well as a package of over-the-air games.

This year's television schedule opens with two Spring Training game telecasts. The Royals will take on the Houston Astros in a two-game exhibition series at Minute Maid Park in Houston on Saturday, April 2 at 6:05 p.m. and Sunday, April 3 at 1:05 p.m. Kansas City will play its season-opener at Detroit on April 4 at 12:05 p.m., which will be telecast on RSTN.

The regular season schedule features 100 RSTN cable games which will reach over two million subscribers in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. The games can be seen locally for Time Warner Cable customers on Metro Sports. Sunflower Cable subscribers can watch the Royals on Channel 6, while Everest Connections customers will be able to see the RSTN games on Channel 14. Most other cable and satellite subscribers in the Royals television territory can receive Royals telecasts through Fox Sports Net Midwest. Royals fans in Iowa, Arkansas and Oklahoma should contact their cable and satellite providers as to the availability of RSTN in their area.

In addition, RSTN will produce a 14-game over-the-air package for the 2005 season. KMCI-Channel 38 will return as RSTN's local over-the-air affi liate and will carry 14 games, including the home opener as the Royals take on the Seattle Mariners on Monday, April 11 at 3:10 p.m. KMCI will also carry each of RSTN's 13 road Sunday afternoon broadcasts.

Veteran broadcaster Bob Davis and Royals Hall of Famer Paul Splittorff will return as the television broadcast team. Davis will be in his ninth season as the play-by-play voice of the Royals telecasts, while Splittorff will be spending his 18th season as the Royals television analyst.

RSTN will continue its announcer rotation for the Sunday afternoon games on its over-the-air package on KMCI, as Royals Radio Network announcers Denny Matthews and Ryan Lefebvre will handle television coverage of nine Sunday games. The other four Sunday contests will feature Lefebvre and Splittorff. Long-time Royals broadcaster Fred White will work the Royals Radio Network broadcasts, as Matthews takes off a few games as in previous seasons.

As in 2004, subscribers with Fox Sports Net Midwest in the Joplin, Springfi eld and Columbia/Jefferson City regions of Missouri will receive only a portion of the RSTN games due to timing confl icts with St. Louis Cardinals telecasts on Fox Sports Net Midwest. Customers in those areas will receive 40 local Royals telecasts in 2005.
