The Kansas City Royals today selected right-handed pitcher Nate Adcock from the Indianapolis (AAA) roster of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization with the fifth overall pick in the Major League phase of the 2010 Rule 5 draft. In the Triple-A phase, the Royals selected right-handed pitcher Heath Rollins from the Montgomery (AA) roster in the Tampa Bay Rays organization and assigned him to Omaha (AAA). Kansas City did not have a player selected in the Major League phase, but left-handed pitchers Starling De La Rosa and Rowdy Hardy were selected by the Texas Rangers and Atlanta Braves, respectively, in the Triple-A phase.

The 22-year old Adcock is a native of Elizabethtown, Ky., and went 11-7 with a 3.38 ERA in 27 games (26 starts) for Bradenton in the Florida State League in 2010, fanning 113 in 141.1 innings pitched. The 6-5, 190-lb. Adcock was originally a fifth-round pick in the 2006 First Year Player Draft by the Seattle Mariners. He was traded to the Pirates' organization in 2009 as part of the seven-player trade that sent shortstop Jack Wilson and pitcher Ian Snell to Seattle.

Rollins, 25, split his 2010 campaign between Durham (AAA) and Montgomery (AA), combining for a 5-3 record with a 5.27 ERA in 44 games, including three starts. The Rays' 11th-round pick in 2006 was a non-roster invite to Spring Training in 2010.
