Anderson absent; Farnsworth has setback

Outfielder remains with wife, awaiting birth of first child

ST. PETERSBURG -- Outfielder Josh Anderson did not report to the Royals on Friday, but pitcher Kyle Farnsworth unexpectedly did.

Anderson, acquired from the Tigers on Thursday, stayed with his wife.

"They're expecting the birth of their first child, a little boy I believe, and [Anderson] gets here when he gets here," manager Trey Hillman said. "And when he gets here, we'll utilize him in the outfield. I'd like to see how he does in center, specifically."

Farnsworth, who was on injury rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Omaha, suffered a setback and returned to the Royals. He's on the disabled list with a groin injury.

"He had one outing and it went good, but he experienced some tightness in his groin and did not have his outing [Thursday] night," Hillman said. "We backed him off, he's here and we're going to get him evaluated by Nick [Swartz, head athletic trainer]."
