Catcher Miguel Olivo and right fielder Mark Teahen, who also had been ill, were in the lineup for the series finale against the Twins. But DeJesus, who missed the entire series, stayed at home.
"David is still sick, he's still not feeling well, I don't know what his status is," Royals manager Trey Hillman said. "I spoke to him late last night. Obviously if he could play, he'd be here."
Hillman wasn't certain if DeJesus would accompany the team to New York for a three-game series that begins Monday night.
He didn't know the exact nature of DeJesus' illness.
"I don't think he knows," Hillman said. "He's taking medication and he's had some fever and he's not feeling very good."
DeJesus left Thursday night's game against Boston after seven innings because he was ill. He had been a hot hitter, with a 17-game streak (25-for-73, .342) that ran through Sept. 18.
