Myers earns Spink Award as top Minors player

Myers, who also earned Minor League Player of the Year honors from Baseball America and USA Today, hit .314 with 37 home runs and 109 RBIs between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha this season.
Myers is the third Royals player to win the Spink Award, joining Johnny Damon in 1995 and Alex Gordon in 2006. The 21-year-old Myers is just the third player to win all three Minor League Player of the Year Awards in a season, along with Andruw Jones (1996) and Josh Beckett (2001).
"I am honored to win this prestigious award from Topps and Minor League Baseball," Myers said in a statement. "To join a list with great players such as Johnny Damon and Alex Gordon is extremely humbling for me."
A third-round pick of Kansas City in the 2009 Draft, Myers is ranked the third-best prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB.com's Prospect Watch. His 37 homers in 2012 trailed only Darin Ruf, who hit 38 regular-season home runs for Double-A Reading, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, among all Minor Leaguers. Myers' 333 total bases led the Minor Leagues, while his RBI totals ranked fourth.
