Royals use only infield Draft pick on Stubbs
By Kathleen Gier and Teddy Cahill / MLB.com
KANSAS CITY -- Cody Stubbs began his college career at Tennessee and transferred to Walters State Community College after his freshman year. He was drafted by the Nationals in the 14th round in 2011, but he elected to attend North Carolina. This year, the Royals took him in the eighth round with their 234th overall pick on Friday.
Stubbs has developed into the power-hitting first baseman most expected him to be, but he has limited upside left. He has good raw power and has matured as a hitter this season after improving his approach.
Stubbs is a solid, if unspectacular, defender at first base. He earns high marks for his makeup and work ethic. He is out of eligibility and is likely to sign.
