KANSAS CITY -- Left-handed pitcher Noel Arguelles cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Triple-A Omaha, the Royals announced on Wednesday.
Arguelles, a Cuban defector who signed for $6.9 million on Jan. 5, 2010, has battled various injuries while in the Royals' system. Hampered by a sore groin this year, he pitched primarily for Double-A Northwest Arkansas and went 1-8 with a 5.93 ERA in 25 games (11 starts).
Pitching for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League, he gave up 12 runs on 12 hits and 15 walks in 12 1/3 innings in nine games.
The Royals also officially released infielder Irving Falu from the roster. Both Arguelles and Falu were designated for assignment on Nov. 20.
