Omaha took an 8-6 lead with four in the eighth, only to have Salt Lake score five in the ninth. Whit Merrifield was 5-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs. He has hit safely in eight straight games (.486, 18-for-37). Paulo Orlando posted three hits and three RBIs. Pedro Ciriaco added three hits, two RBIs and a run. John Lamb made the start (4.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 2 SO).
NW Arkansas Naturals (25-26 second half, 50-72 overall)
Corpus Christi 4, NW Arkansas 2
LP: Tim Melville (1-10)
HR: Brian Fletcher (1 with NW Arkansas, 3 overall)
Northwest Arkansas lost the rubber game at Corpus Christi. The Hooks scored all four runs off of Tim Melville (4.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO). Brian Fletcher homered in his first game since being transferred from a rehab assignment with Burlington. Lane Adams and Juan Graterol had two hits apiece. The Naturals are at San Antonio (Padres) tonight.
Wilmington Blue Rocks (24-26 second half, 57-61 overall)
Frederick 4, Wilmington 1
LP: John Walter (5-2)
Wilmington finished 4-2 in a home-and-home set vs. Frederick. The Rocks took a 1-0 lead on Raul Mondesi's double in the third. He has hit safely in six straight games (.375, 9-for-24), recording nine RBIs. Cody Stubbs and Ramon Torres had two hits each. The Keys moved ahead with three in the fourth off of John Walter.
Lexington Legends (20-34 second half, 49-75 overall)
Lexington 2, West Virginia 1
WP: Jake Junis (9-7)
SV: Tim Hill (5)
Frank Schwindel's two-run double in the sixth lifted Lexington to an opening win at home. Schwindel is ninth in the league with 68 RBIs. Kenny Diekroeger added three hits and a run. Jake Junis recorded six strikeouts over 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit.
Idaho Falls Chukars (9-8 second half, 29-26 overall)
Idaho Falls 14, Helena 1
WP: Eric Stout (4-0)
HR: Brawlun Gomez (2)
Idaho Falls cruised to a rubber game win at Helena. Brawlun Gomez was a double from the cycle as he finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Corey Toups recorded three hits, three walks, two runs and an RBI, while DonAndre Clark had two hits and three runs. Eric Stout worked 3.0 scoreless innings for the relief win.
Burlington Royals (22-31)
Danville 10, Burlington 1
LP: Colin Rodgers (0-3)
HR: Leland Clemmons (4)
Burlington lost a home game to the Braves after dropping two at Danville on Wednesday. Leland Clemmons homered in the ninth for the lone Burlington run. Christian Flecha tossed 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit and three walks with five strikeouts.
