Omaha is a game behind Oklahoma City in the division race after a third straight loss at Reno. The Aces scored three in the seventh to take a 7-6 lead. Carlos Peguero hit his team-leading 29th home run, which ranks second in the PCL. He has 14 roundtrippers and 30 RBI in August. Whit Merrifield and Paul Janish drove in two runs apiece.
NW Arkansas Naturals (27-36 second half, 52-82 overall)
Tulsa 6, NW Arkansas 5
LP: Brandon Finnegan (0-3 with NW Arkansas, 0-4 overall)
HR: Juan Graterol (4), Parker Morin (3)
Northwest Arkansas lost the series opener as Tulsa scored two unearned runs in the ninth. Starter Matt Murray fanned six without a walk over 7.1 innings. He allowed three runs in the first, then held Tulsa scoreless until yielding a run in the eighth. Juan Graterol and Parker Morin hit back-to-back homers in the seventh. Graterol also had a two-run double in the second. Lane Adams recorded his 35th stolen base.
Wilmington Blue Rocks (29-32 second half, 62-67 overall)
Potomac 3, Wilmington 1
LP: Yender Caramo (4-8)
Wilmington dropped game one vs. Potomac, with all of the scoring in the fifth. Miguel Almonte held the Nats to a hit and a walk while striking out seven over 4.0 innings. The righty is ranked fifth among Royals prospects by MLB.com. Frank Schwindel scored Wilmington's run on a force out by Jack Lopez.
Lexington Legends (26-38 second half, 55-79 overall)
West Virginia 8, Lexington 2
LP: Matt Alvarez (5-7)
HR: Mauricio Ramos (9)
The Legends had their five-game winning streak snapped in the opener vs. West Virginia. Mauricio Ramos had two hits, including a solo homer in the third. Elier Hernandez was 2-for-4 with an RBI single. The 16th-ranked Royals prospect has hit in nine straight games at a .594 clip (22-for-37). His eight-game stretch of a scoring at least one run was snapped.
Idaho Falls Chukars (13-16 second half, 33-34 overall)
Orem 2, Idaho Falls 1
LP: Mike Jeffreys (2-2)
The Chukars will look to turn the tables in a home-and-home series after dropping all four games at Orem. Mike Jeffreys (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) pitched well in defeat. Robert Pehl's single scored Brandon Downes for the lone Idaho Falls run.
Burlington Royals (28-36)
Pulaski 9, Burlington 8
LP: Cole Way (0-1)
HR: Brandon Dulin (7)
Burlington let an 8-1 lead slip away as Pulaski plated four in the seventh and four more in the ninth. Carter Hope held the M's to one run, six hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Blue Springs native Logan Moon was a home run shy of the cycle. Lee's Summit North product Brandon Dulin hit a two-run homer.
