Mitre tripped up in sixth
Sergio Mitre's streak of not allowing an earned run ended at 24 2/3 innings in the third, but things really fell part for the right-hander in the sixth and seventh innings. Mitre gave up a two-run double to Emil Brown in the sixth and a three-run double to Mike Sweeney in the seventh.

Mike Sweeney's bases-clearing, three-run double in the seventh inning opened up a five-run lead as the Royals ran their Interleague record to 7-3. Gil Meche turned in his best performance as a Royal, allowing just one run and six hits in eight strong innings for his fourth win of the season.
