After leading early, the Royals needed Tony Pena Jr.'s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to tie it, only to see their hopes of winning fade on Ryan Garko's RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Cleveland had tied it in the fourth with the help of two K.C. miscues.

Ryan Garko's single in the bottom of the ninth rescued the Tribe after Joe Borowski gave up the lead in the top of the inning. Starter Jake Westbrook walked a season-high five but left after six innings with the lead; catcher Victor Martinez drove in two runs.
