Billy Butler and Ross Gload drove in runs in the fifth inning to get the Royals on the board and make it a one-run game, but they couldn't get closer. Jorge De La Rosa struggled with walks and the long ball and left in the fourth with a bruised left thumb.

Travis Hafner hit his 15th homer of the season in the first inning, and the Tribe never trailed behind new 11-game winner Fausto Carmona. Ryan Garko homered for the second straight game and scored twice; Carmona allowed two runs over seven innings of work.
