Rookie right-hander Brian Bannister posted his 10th win, shutting down the White Sox after hitting a bump in the first inning. The Royals offense broke through against Jose Contreras in the first and second innings, scoring two runs in each frame. Billy Butler chipped in with a homer and three RBIs.
Jose Contreras continues to search for the bottom of his season-long slide. The right-hander dropped his ninth straight start as the Royals picked him apart early before he settled down to last six innings. Josh Fields delivered a three-run homer in the ninth before the rally ended.
