After falling behind, 5-1, in the first inning, the Royals could have given up. Instead the team fought back, scoring on a Tony Pena solo shot in the fifth and stringing together six hits as part of a four-run seventh inning to complete the comeback. The bullpen threw 8 1/3 innings of shutout baseball in the win.
Following a five-run first inning that included RBI hits from four different players, the White Sox offense went cold. The team only had four more hits on the night against Royals pitching. Jose Contreras was in control until the seventh inning, when he allowed three of his four earned runs.
