Garland goes out on high note
Royals offense shut down By Dick Kaegel / MLB.com
Kansas City only had five baserunners off Jon Garland on Wednesday night. Zack Greinke pitched well for the Royals, striking out six and allowing three runs in five innings. He threw two bad pitches on the night, one to Jim Thome and another to Jermaine Dye, which both ended up in the stands.

Thome passes Murray By Alex Gyr / MLB.com
Jim Thome hit his 33rd home run of the season, the 505th of his career, to pass Eddie Murray for 20th all time on the career home run list. Jermaine Dye hit a two-run shot of his own, his 28th of the season, to back Jon Garland for his 10th win of the year. Garland threw the sixth shutout of his career.
