PERSONAL: Andrew James Van Slyke…resides in St. Louis, MO, with his wife, Lauri…they have four children: A.J., Scott, Jared and Nathan…both A.J. and Scott were drafted and signed in 2005, A.J. by St. Louis (23rd round pick) and Scott by Los Angeles (NL, 14th round pick)…Andy graduated from New Hartford (NY) High School where he starred in baseball, basketball and football…earned All-America honors in baseball as a senior…following his retirement as a player, served in various media capacities.

MANAGING/COACHING CAREER: Is in his first season as the Mariners first base coach…will also be responsible for the outfielders…spent four seasons as the first base coach for the Detroit Tigers from 2006-09…with the Tigers, was part of the same coaching staff as Mariners Manager Lloyd McClendon.

PLAYING CAREER: A first-round selection by the St. Louis Cardinals in the June 1979 Draft, had a 13-season Major League career…was a three-time All-Star (1988, 1992, 1993), won five Gold Gloves (1988-92) and two Silver Sluggers (1988, 1992)…was a career .274 hitter with 164 home runs in 1,658 games with the St. Louis Cardinals (1983-86), Pittsburgh Pirates (1987-94), Baltimore Orioles (1995) and Philadelphia Phillies (1995)…was also teammates with McClendon with the Pirates from 1990-94.
