FIFTH STINT WITH TEXAS
Moore is in his fifth season as bench coach after being hired Oct. 22, 2008...this is his record fourth stint as a coach for the Rangers, having also served from 1973-76 (first base and third base coach), 1980 (third base) and 1993-94 (bench)...Moore has been involved in the game as a player, coach, or manager for 55 consecutive years...the Arlington resident has lived in the city for many years.
Prior to joining the staff, served as bench coach for the Houston Astros during the 2008 season...was manager of Houston's farm club, the Round Rock Express, from 2000-07...the Express was a Double-A team from 2000-04 and has been a Triple-A affiliate beginning with the 2005 campaign...Moore was named Texas League Manager of the Year in 3 of his 5 seasons at the DoubleA level, and reached the playoffs in 5 of his 8 seasons at the helm in Round Rock...the Express won the Texas League championship in the franchise's inaugural season in 2000, when club was named Baseball America Minor League Team of the Year after establishing a Double-A attendance record...was Baseball America Manager of the Year in 2001...has served as a coach at MLB Futures Game in Milwaukee (2002), Houston (2004), and Pittsburgh (2006)...he was the bench coach for the Rockies from 1996-98 and has also coached with Milwaukee (1970-72), Texas (1973-76, 1980, 1993- 94), Toronto (1977-79), Montreal (1987-89) and Cincinnati (1990-92)...he was the dugout coach for the 1990 World Champion Reds...he was manager of the Oakland A's from 1984-86...Moore served as an assistant coach for the silver medal-winning Pan American team in Winnipeg in 1999.
His 11-year playing career began in 1957 and included stints as an outfielder and a catcher with the Detroit and Boston organizations...he had one stint in the big leagues, spending the majority of the 1965 season with the Tigers...his lone year in the Red Sox system was 1967 with Toronto, topping the International League catchers with a .944 fielding percentage...with Detroit in 1965, he started behind the plate on Opening Day.
Jackie Spencer Moore...graduated from Houston's Bellaire High School in 1957...wife's name is JoAnne...their son, Johnathan, was selected by the Rangers in the 45th round of the 2010 June draft...has hosted nearly 100 guests from Snowball Express for an event in Mansfield the last 4 years...Snowball Express is an organization which provides opportunities for children of military members who have died on active duty since Sept. 11, 2001...Jackie has also participated in many other local charitable efforts, including the team's visits to local children's hospitals...took part in the 2013 Rangers Winter Caravan.
