Saturday, July 26
Kauffman Stadium
Up-and-coming country band Emerson Drive will perform at Kauffman Stadium immediately following the July 26 game between the Royals and the Tampa Bay Rays. And lead singer Brad Mates is thrilled. "For us to be able to get into that kind of stadium ... is a pretty surreal feeling," said Mates.
The Interview
Up-and-coming Emerson Drive enjoying their wild ride
How does a band from Calgary, Canada land gigs at a Major League Baseball stadium? That's what we set to find out when we talked to Emerson Drive lead singer Brad Mates.
It turns out that Mates and his mates are huge baseball fans who have attended World Series games. And Mates himself has a bit of baseball history in his blood, having been taught the finer points of hitting by his boyhood hardball hero, Jim Edmonds.
"For us to be able to get into [Kauffman Stadium] and just have everybody there at once watching you is a pretty surreal
feeling," said Mates.
ABOUT THE BAND
Countrified catapults band to top of the charts
Countrified began as a special night in Bowling Green, Ky. when Emerson Drive was lucky enough to have record producer Josh Leo and Teddy Gentry of the group Alabama in the audience. With Nashville's Midas Records jumping aboard to help the Canadian band craft their recent smash record, the rest, as they say, is history.
